The Oil Of Gladness

I have often noticed that Christians have better attitudes than unbelievers. They have attitudes of peace, joy, purpose and fulfillment that are unknown to unbelievers. I have noticed incredible changes even in myself since Christ made me into a new creature.

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Hebrews 1:9b: . . . God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

While the Hebrews passage speaks about the Lord Jesus it also speaks about believers in Him. When we receive Jesus into our hearts He brings with Him the oil of His gladness into our hearts. He also brings many other things into our hearts. He brings peace and courage to our hearts.

John 14:27: Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

He brings into us ability to love others and meet their needs.

Isaiah 61:1: The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

He brings into us strength.

Nehemiah 8:10b: . . . the joy of the LORD is your strength.

He brings into us the Holy Ghost and power to do good and to overcome evil with good. He brings into us the eternal presence of God.

Acts 10:38: How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Romans 12:21: Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

He brings into us a love of righteousness and a hatred of sin. Loving righteousness and hating sin cause gladness.

Hebrews 1:9: Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

The more we understand the things Jesus has brought into us and the more we make use of them the more the oil of gladness will flow.
